Leg Pain Treatment: Simple Tips You Do On Your Own

Here are some simple tips on how to treat your leg pain (without calling a doctor!)

1) Rest as much as possible.

2) Elevate your leg.

3) Apply ice for up to 15 minutes. Do this 4 times per day, more often for the first few days.

4) Gently stretch and massage cramping muscles.

5) Take over-the-counter pain medications like tramadol or fioricet.

6) For leg pain caused by varicose veins, leg elevation and compression with elastic bandages or support hose can help.

But, you shouyld call a doctor immediately if you experience the following:

1) The painful leg is swollen or red.

2) You have a fever.

3) Your pain worsens when walking or exercising and improves with rest.

4) The leg is black and blue.

5) The leg is cold and pale.

6) You are on medications that may be causing leg pain.

7) Simple tips I mentioned above do not help.

To prevent overuse injuries, like shin splints, muscle cramps, and other causes of leg pain, Warm up before physical activity and cool down afterward; be sure to stretch. And drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, especially before, during, and after exercise. Remember, prevention is still the best way to fight muscle pain.
